Professional Certification Institute (P.C.I.) Membership Code of Ethics for
the Practice of Mold Inspection, Mold Testing, Mold Remediation, and
Environmental Hygiene
In recognition of my obligation to my environmental clients, to the
general public, and to the environmental profession, I agree to comply with
all of the following ten P.C.I. Canons of Ethical Conduct.
Objective
The canons provided in this P.C.I. Membership Code
of Ethics provide standards of ethical conduct for Certified Mold
Inspectors, Certified Mold Remediators, and Certified Environmental
Hygienists trained and certified by the Professional Certification
Institute, for use by such environmental professionals as they practice
their profession and exercise their primary mission, which is to protect the
health and well-being of both their clients and the general public from
microbiological and other environmental health hazards located in homes,
condo's, apartments, offices, factories, retail stores, other workplaces,
schools, churches, entertainment facilities, stores, and other occupied
buildings of all types.
First Canon of Ethical Conduct
I will practice my profession by following
recognized scientific principles with the full understanding that the lives,
health, personal well-being, financial well-being, and legal well-being of
both my clients and the general public may depend upon my professional
judgment, evaluation, recommendations, and provided services.
Second Canon of Ethical Conduct
I will advise my clients accurately and correctly
regarding potential environmental health risks discovered in providing my
professional services, as well as the precautions necessary to avoid adverse
health effects.
Third Canon of Ethical Conduct
I will keep confidential personal and business
information obtained during the exercise of my professional duties
activities, except when required by law or overriding health and public
safety considerations.
Fourth Canon of Ethical Conduct
I will avoid circumstances and situations wherein
a compromise of my professional judgment or a conflict of interest may
arise.
Fifth Canon of Ethical Conduct
I will perform my professional services only
within the areas of my own particular competency, training, and
certification. I will utilize the services and products of those who possess
specialized skills, tools, or trades not possessed by myself when
circumstances call for work to be done which I am unable to perform myself.
Sixth Canon of Ethical Conduct
I will act responsibly to uphold the
integrity of my profession and of my P.C.I. professional training and
certification.
Seventh Canon of Ethical Conduct
I will continually keep my
professional knowledge and skills current and up-to-date with the
ever-changing and ever-happening advances in scientific knowledge and
professional practices in regard to the areas of my own particular
competence, training, and certification. I will also stay informed of new
developments in technology, tools of the trade, building codes, industry
standards and guidelines, and any other codes or information that directly
affect my professionals services rendered to my clients.
Eighth Canon of Ethical Conduct
I will be honest in
advertising my services, avoiding any misrepresentation or deception
concerning my available professional services, practices, costs, and fees.
Ninth Canon of Ethical Conduct
I will provide my
services only after securing any necessary bonding and licensing that may be
required on a particular project or within a particular jurisdiction.
Tenth Canon of Ethical Conduct
I will
promptly and courteously address any and all customer or consumer complaints
and or inquiries; and I will fully explain the services, testing procedures
and practices followed by myself in dealing with any specific problems
that may arise in providing my professional services.
I, the undersigned, agree that as a certified environmental professional of
the Professional Certification Institute, I will abide by this P.C.I.
Membership Code of Ethics.
