New Homes Are Often Mold Contaminated Before The
New Homeowner Even Moves In!
Newly-built
homes are often mold contaminated even before the new homeowner moves in because: (a)
moldy lumber was used in the construction; (b) the home's roof and side walls were not
covered in plastic sheeting at the end of each construction day to protect the home from
rain (source of water for mold spores to grow inside the home under construction); (c) no
mold quality control by the home builder and its employees; and (d) use of modern
building materials like chip wafer boards, dry wall (plasterboard), and plywood -- all of
which mold loves to eat.
The
home pictured above has its completion on hold (as of September, 2001) because the home
buyer is rightfully upset about mold growing in hundreds of locations inside this
Garland, Texas, $600,000 home being built by one of the largest Dallas builders of luxury
homes. The home buyer has hired both a local mold remediation company and the services of
Phillip Fry, Certified Mold Inspector. The
mold contamination test results have been presented to the builder which has thus far
failed to make a commitment to dismantle the home and to rebuild it with mold-free lumber
in a protective construction environment against mold contamination. The photo's at the
right are close-ups of two of the hundreds of molds.
